Blitz Top 10 after Week 5

This week’s top 10 has a different look to it as only one ranked team last week lost this past week, and that was Haywood, who lost to Munford, who’s also ranked. 

But the voters collectively felt a couple of programs that win more than they lose should be put back into the ranking after they picked up wins, knocking out teams that also won who were ranked lower.

But either way, here’s the West TN Blitz Top 10 after Week 5.

1. Westview (5-0): Another game, another dominant victory for the Chargers. Last week’s ranking: 1. This week’s result: Beat McNairy 57-0. Next week’s game: At Lausanne.

2. Huntingdon (5-0): The defense shut out a team that was averaging 26.5 points per game. Last week’s ranking: 2. This week’s result: Beat JCM 37-0. Next week’s game: Vs. Gibson Co.

3. Munford (4-0): The Cougars continue to win their non-region games before getting into Region 8-5A play. Last week’s ranking: 3. This week’s result: Beat Haywood 38-14. Next week’s game: Vs. Whitehaven.

4. Lexington (5-0): One of their most heated rivals hosted them for homecoming, and they made them pay. Last week’s ranking: 4. This week’s result: Beat Chester Co. 42-7. Next week’s game: Vs. South Side.

5. Covington (4-1): There aren’t many teams in Class 3A that can stop the Chargers. Last week’s ranking: 7. This week’s result: Beat Obion Co. 64-13. Next week’s game: Vs. Ripley.

6. Crockett Co. (4-1): The Cavaliers have dominated the last two weeks but have another top 10 matchup next week. Last week’s ranking: 6. This week’s result: Beat Hardin Co. 62-7. Next week’s game: Vs. North Side.

7. McKenzie (3-2): The Rebels are back after impressing voters this past week. Last week’s ranking: NR. This week’s result: Beat Camden 56-8. Next week’s game: Vs. Chester Co.

8. Humboldt (5-0): All the Vikings do is win and win big. Last week’s ranking: 9. This week’s result: Beat West Carroll 54-0. Next week’s game: At Dresden.

9. Milan (3-2): The Bulldogs are back to winning, but can they do it consistently. Last week’s ranking: NR. This week’s result: Beat Gibson Co. 55-8. Next week’s game: At JCM.

10. JCS (5-0): This game appears to have gone a lot easier for the Eagles than the week before. Last week’s ranking: 8. This week’s result: Beat Fayette Aca. 35-16. Next week’s game: Vs. Tipton-Rosemark.

Honorable mention: Haywood (3-2), Adamsville (4-1) and USJ (4-1).
