Quick hits
Hardin County boasts of one of the more memorable gameday atmospheres in high school football in West Tennessee. From their Tiger Walk to their checkerboard endzones, their football-watching experience resembles that of the orange college program in Knoxville.
The Tigers are a young group this year as the bulk of their roster is in the sophomore and freshman classes. But the junior and senior classes were there when the Tigers were winning and competing for region championships before winning one or two playoff games every year.
The older players have been trying to help the younger guys coming in learn the playbook and how the Tigers go about doing things, and sometimes that means staying with them after practice.
Head coach Alex Seaton is the third coach the Tigers’ program has had in nearly 40 years. William McAdams became head coach in 1989 and led the program until 2010. Matthew Smith led from 2011-24. Seaton is starting his third season at the helm.
The Tigers start the season with a trip over the Tennessee River to Adamsville then will have four straight games at home.
Position groups
Offensive line — Toby Kinnie is the one starter back for this group. Landon Yates, James Dennis, Lane Holloway, Jaidden Green, Shaun Wood, Caden Murphy and Scotty Christopher all spent the summer competing for the other four starting slots up front, and the ones that won’t start will be in the regular rotation for playing time.
Backfield — Quarterback Aiden Coleman is starting his second full season starting under center for the Tigers. He’ll be surrounded by new faces in the backfield as Isaiah Bingham, Justin Williams, Kortavious Taylor and Carson Stricklin will all share ball-carrying and blocking duties.
Receivers — Landen Browder and Braden Snodgrass are returning starters. Don Laman, Gavin Cromwell, Ben Williams and Zavion Frierson all had quality offseasons improving their games to contribute too. Heath Hardin, Ben Duncan, Paul Maclin and Patrick Austin are the main guys who will play tight end at some point.
Defensive line — Jaidden Green and Scotty Christopher will be playing defensive tackle, while Javier Chavez and Ben Duncan will be defensive ends. Kortavious Taylor and Sawyer Smith will get playing time on that side of the ball as well.
Linebackers — Heath Hardin is a returning starter at middle linebacker. Brody Bixler, Patrick Austin and Paul Maclin will back him up or line up next to him depending on the defensive set. Coleman, Bingham and Hunter Mims will play outside linebacker.
Secondary — The free safety will be Don Laman. Definite starters at cornerback will be Gavin Cromwell and Laven Browder. They will be backed up by Ben Williams, Snodgrass, Ricktavious Tomlin, Justin Williams and Frierson.
Special teams — Senior Jonah Wilson will be the kicker. Ben Duncan will be the punter. Cromwell handled punt returning last year and will probably do the same this year.
