Quick hits
The Rebels have had one of the best offseasons head coach Clayton Morris has had in the past decade at multiple schools. He said offseasons can be judged in how quickly they go by, and 2026 has gone by swiftly.
The Rebels are typically a Class 4A program but enrollment dropped enough for them to dip down into Class 3A the past couple years. They fell just short of making the playoffs last year behind three of the best teams in the state and a team they lost to by a point.
The Rebels do a good job of keeping their schedule as close to home as possible. All of their non-region games are against nearby schools from smaller classifications.
The players said they appreciate Morris’ style of leadership for the program that’s player-centric and focuses on player development. They think that generates more enthusiasm within the school for the program, which causes more boys to come out for the team and more student support.
Those three teams that are among the best in the state - a defending state champion, a semifinalist and a quarterfinalist - are the Rebels’ opponents in Weeks 4, 5 and 6, meaning they go ahead and get those teams out of the way to start region play.
