West TN Blitz top 10 after Week 7

Rural West Tennessee lost an unbeaten team this past week when Jackson Christian lost at TCA.

The top 10 rankings also lost JCS after that loss.

The Eagles and their cross-town rivals from University School of Jackson - who won this past week over Marshall County - both fell out of the top 10.

In their place are Haywood and North Side, who received votes last week.

Liberty, who’s undefeated but finally beat a team with a winning record this past week, got a vote for the top 10.

The Crusaders will be in the closest thing to a ranked matchup as the Crusaders host North Side on Wednesday.

Only five teams of the top 10 will play in Week 8 as most school districts in the area will have fall break this week, which is why North Side and Liberty are meeting on Wednesday. They both already had their bye weeks, so they’re playing on Wednesday to give players and coaches some semblance of a break.

2 Huntingdon (7-0): The Mustangs made a statement with their victory this week. Last week’s ranking: 2. This week’s result: Beat Riverside 56-7. Next week: At Harpeth.

3 Lexington (7-0): The Tigers’ defense showed out a little more this week. Last week’s ranking: 4. This week’s result: Beat South Gibson 27-10. Next week: Open.

4 Munford (5-1): It was not a good thing to play against Munford a week after they lost. Last week’s ranking: 3. This week’s result: Beat Kingsbury 68-0. Next week: Vs. Overton.

5 Covington (6-1): The Chargers appear to have found their rhythm on both sides of the ball. Last week’s ranking: 5. This week’s result: Beat Bolivar 50-0. Next week: Open.

6 Crockett Co. (6-1): The Cavaliers were in control throughout their rivalry win. Last week’s ranking: 7. This week’s result: Beat Dyersburg 39-21. Next week: Open.

7 Humboldt (7-0): The Vikings have made it through the meat of their region schedule unscathed. Last week’s ranking: 9. This week’s result: Beat Greenfield 40-0. Next week: Open.

8 McKenzie (5-2): The Rebels are in region play and will be expected to win big every week. Last week’s ranking: 8. This week’s result: Beat Collinwood 42-6. Next week: Vs. Bruceton.

9 Haywood (5-2): The Tomcats continue to dominate Region 8-4A. Last week’s ranking: Received votes. This week’s result: Beat Millington 51-8. Next week: Open.

10 North Side (4-2): The Indians allowed a field goal and then scored 56 points over the course of about two full quarters after that. Last week’s ranking: Received votes. This week’s result: Beat Hardin Co. 63-10. Next week: At Liberty on Wednesday.
