Quick hits
Head coach Josh Wolfe was promoted last year to head coach from defensive coordinator. He’d previously been head coach at West Carroll for a few years before getting back home to Camden as an assistant coach and moving to different schools over the last few years.
Wolfe said he thinks the start to the season - losing three games in their first four - gave the Patriots plenty of chances for them to see what they needed to do better, learn from it and improve. Seeing as how the team won their next seven games including winning their region, then the lessons seemed to have worked. By the way, all three of those teams in those losses all went on to win their own regions.
The Patriots could be in a position to score a lot of points since they’re returning eight starters from a team that averaged a little better than 38 points per game.
Position groups
Offensive line — Easton Blankenship will be the center. Around him will be Keylon Bledsoe, Michael Drummond, Zane Martin and Ayden Teague. Ayden Brown and Malik Jackson will also be a big part of this group.
Backfield — Region Offensive Player of the Year Aiden Spellings is back starting at quarterback. Emmett Jones, Ronald Patton and Max Nored are back sharing running back duties, and Jackson Williams will add more blocking into the backfield.
Receivers — Deonte Ward, Sam Harrison, Ryder Harrison and Danny Tormey will probably be the nucleus of this group. But other guys like Drake Ward and Umary Atkinson will fill in some crucial roles at times. Blair Moody will be the H-back.
Defensive line — Jackson is a returning starter here. Tyron Rhea, Isaiah Tharpe and Ayden Galler will probably fill out the line.
Linebackers — Cade Warren will play the sam position, while Jones and Jackson Williams will play rover at the outside linebacker positions. Inside linebackers will be sophomore Caden Turner, Marge Jackson, Brayden Winn, Decaden Campbell and Logan Rick.
Secondary — Cade Martin will start at cornerback. Cousins Sam and Ryder Harrison started last year at safety. Danny Tormey will also play cornerback.
Special teams — Returning starter Jake Hatcher was the kicker on the all-state team last year. Sam Harrison will be punter while Easton Blankenship will be the longsnapper. Returners will probably be led by Patton, Atkinson, Ward and Sam Harrison.
